Some time ago my brother Mark started painting a series of works based on the legends of St Brendan, an Irish monk who allegedly made his way in a flimsy boat right up to Iceland and perhaps beyond. I took this as a starting point for a meditation on faith and hope. The result is The Voyage.

Shame was written in the wake of my grandmother's death; at the age of 90 she attempted suicide rather than face a colostomy bag, and died shortly afterwards.

Despair came out of nowhere, though I realise now that it is a lament for my own faith.

This White Lie came out of events in the summer of 2007, thinking about veracity, kindness and morality. It's a laugh a minute.
